The Supersonics are still in Okie CIty and the conversation in Seattle as to whether we will ever see professional basketball in this town again has quieted to such an extent that the former ownership group might as well be talking about when they can expect their next outbreak of genital herpes.
For those of you who enjoy attempting to kick yourselves in the face (bikram helps), turn on preseason coverage and marvel at the branding nightmare that is the Thunder. Go ahead. And who do we talk to about getting the Supersonics' history off of the Thunder wiki page? I thought we negotiated to keep the franchise?
What really saddens me is that the Seattle fan base seems to really be giving up its leverage in terms of getting another team. We need to see more Sonics gear on the streets, especially in high-profile places. What could be better than attending a Seahawks game in your old-school Xavier McDaniel jersey? How about carpooling down to a Blazers game with Sonics jerseys and signs? What happened to Save Our Sonics? Just because the former incarnation is gone doesn't mean the Sonics can't still be saved.... we need the best, brightest and most virulent internet minds out there working to keep the kernel of Sonics' love alive in Seattle's sports consciousness... otherwise it will wither and die.
